The Union Cabinet finally gave the much awaited nod to the women’s reservation bill which secures a 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State assemblies.The President wanted the bill to be approved along with the budget itself. The bill had been denied approval from 14 years when it was first drafted and brought into Parliament in 1996 due to lack of political consensus on the issue. The approval was finally given in a Ubion cabinet meeting which was presided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
