PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (GroundReport) – Recently, the Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Hero Fund Commission awarded Carnegie medals to a group of Americans and Canadians.
In essence, the award ceremony retold stories of courage that came to the organization’s attention from newspaper articles, tips or through its Web site.
One of the recipients was a disabled construction worker who rescued a 12-year-old from an attacking cougar. Others included a pair of passers-by who saved an elderly woman from being run down by a train. In all, there were 26 people awarded Carnegie medals on Wednesday for their heroic acts.
The recipients are slated to receive $6,000 in addition to the medal, The Associated Press reports.
