Thousands of devotees have attended the Fest of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo Manila yesterday. The 401 year old tradition is a yearly celebration honoring the carved statue of the Black Nazarene that was brought in the Philippines by the Spaniards through Mexico. The festival of the Black Nazarene is being participated by thousands of devotees partly because of its miraculous power to heal the sick and prayers answered.
Most of the devotees believe that participating in the procession and touching the Black Nazarene with their white handkerchiefs is enough to give miracles to their ailing family members or good fortune the whole year and beyond. Their devotion to the Black Nazarene is incomparable to the other Catholic festivals.
Yesterday’s celebration was participated by around 80,000 to 100,000 devotees from all over the country. Local and foreign tourists watched the procession in the streets and on televisions. The miracles that the Black Nazarene performed were even supported and attested to by the 19th century Pope Pious. The testaments could also be heard from the millions of devotees that regularly visit the Black Nazarene in a Church in Quiapo Manila Philippines.
