Cervical Cancer relief to residents of Kibera

Cancer is a deadly disease compared to any other known diseases on earth. Even most feared Ebola or HIV/Aids have not consumed many of people compared to cancer. However If cancer is detected early, it is curable. Cancer is caused by camouflaging of cells that attacks human beings and are characterized by abnormal cell growth.
Only 10% of cancers’ deaths are caused by the primary tumor growth of abnormal cell growth. This give the hope that in case of frequent visits to the hospital, woman aged 15 years to 50 years of Kibera can avoid deaths resulting from cervical cancer.
However, it happen that cancer treatments are only prospective to those born with a silver spoon in your mouth who can afford expensive medication in luxurious hospitals in Kenya or abroad. In such situations, poor Kenyans are left to fight but eventually give up the ghost due to inadequate health medical care.
Moreover, huge populations are victims of cancer yet they are not aware of it due to low public awareness creation in the recent years. But the situation is changing gradually with many women in Kibera turning up for free screening and treatment. Such difficulties are things of the past for Kibera residents with the presence of Carolina organization in the areas. The origination has provided free solutions to cervical cancer not only to residents but also to medical practitioners of hospitals around the area by training them.
The clinic specializes in provides cancer screening and treatment free of charge to resident of Kibera and neighboring estates as long as individuals are able to travel to the clinic irrespective of where they come from. Been the only cancer equipped hospital in Kibera, a slum housing more than one million low income residents, it get an overwhelming number of residents who visits the clinic and queuing for a long time with an assure of getting a rare services in their area.
The organization have gone ahead to train health personalities on how to screen and treat cervical cancer. “These health personalities are trained to provide medical attendance to individuals who may have the problem” said Mark Muasa, a medical officer at Carolina organization.
“In addition, hospital practitioners around Kibera have been trained by us usually refers patients whom they have screen to Carolina hospital for cervical cancer treatment because other hospitals in the locality don’t have equipments need to treat such patients.
Recently Carolina health with other health personalities from other hospitals in the area provided free cervical cancer screen and treatment at Kibera DO Langata sub county hospital where a large number of woman residents in the area of turned up for free screening treatment.
“We are doing this with the hope that all hospitals around Kibera to provide cancer screening and treatment.” Mark Muasa said in an interview. He further advocated for the government to equip hospitals around the area with screen machines to be able to provide services to residents.
