Chicago Illinois. On Sunday the Chicago White Sox traded their designated hitter Adam Dunn, 34, to the Oakland Athletics for minor league right handed pitcher Nolan Sandburn, 23.
Dunn is a 14 year veteran of the Major Leagues. Dunn made his Major League Baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds in 2001. Dunn has also played Major League Baseball with the Arizona Diamonbacks, Washington Nationals and the Chicago White Sox before being traded to the Oakland Athletics.
Dunn will be a free agent at the end of the 2014 Major League Baseball season. Dunn has never played on a baseball team that has played in the postseason. The Athletics are currently in second place in the American League Western Division behind the Los Angeles Angels who are in first place. The Athletics are currently in a position to play in a wild card game if the current baseball season ended on Sunday.
The Athletics needed another powerful bat in their lineup after they traded outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to the Boston Red Sox on July 31 2014 for left handed pitcher Jon Lester. Lester like Dunn will be a free agent at the end of the 2014 baseball season.
Dunn will be motivated to play his best for the Athletics for the remainder of the current baseball season since the team has a chance to make it to the postseason barring a late season losing streak that would eliminate them from making the postseason.
The White Sox are currently in fourth place in the American League Central Division. The White Sox are going to make the playoffs this year. Sandburn who is currently pitching in the minor leagues will be the pitcher of the future for the White Sox.
Dunn said he is likely to walk away from playing in the Major Leagues at end of the 2014 Major League Baseball season. Dunn is nicknamed Big Donkey since he six feet and six inches tall and weighs 285 pounds. Dunn should be able to provide the Athletics another power hitter in their lineup for the rest of the 2014 baseball season.
