The death toll in the midst of the recent 7.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked China has went into the high double-digits. Many people in China had felt the pain of the earthquake. However, other parts of Asia such as Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Taiwan had felt the effects of the earthquake as well.
There is a chance that this earthquake could be added to issues that loom over China as a possible PR nightmare as it sets to host the 2008 Summer Olympics. So far, none of the facilities used for the Olympics in Beijing has been harmed according to the government. At the same time, China’s government was more receptive to foreign aid than Burma’s junta.
Days before the earthquake rocked China, Burma was ravaged by Cyclone Nargis. Still, many in Burma are still waiting for the necessary aid. While the death toll in the wake of the cyclone is high, many more are at risk of dying by waterborne diseases.
In China, many are still feeling the damage of the earthquake. For Wang Qiang, it would be one earthquake he’ll never forget. During the time of the earthquake, Wang was working as a wedding photographer. He was waiting for the bride and groom-to-be in a pose.
Then, the earthquake struck. The church crumbled to the ground as a result of the earthquake. Wang took the initiative and told people to run to safety. For himself and other photographers, this would be one wedding neither of them would forget. Wang made sure to take pictures.
It seems that the young women had their wedding dressed dirtied from the wake of the earthquake. Everybody that would be attending the wedding ceremony was shocked in disbelief. Wang managed to get pictures of the guests in a state of shock.
To make matters worse, they were stranded. The earthquake has blocked the main way. But, they managed to make it to safety due to help from a truck driver. From a photographer’s perspective, he had covered many things. A picture says a thousand words.
But Wang’s pictures should say thousands of words. It would be one wedding ceremony none of them would forget.
