ROWAN MEN’S BASKETBALL ENDS SEMESTER WITH 86-61 WIN AT NEUMANN
ASTON, PA – The Rowan University men’s basketball team ended the semester with an 86-61 win at Neumann University on Wednesday night.
Guard Kris O’Connor (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) totaled 16 points, five rebounds, six assists and six steals. Forward Ike Robinson (jr. Trenton, NJ/Conwell-Egan Catholic (PA)) contributed with 15 points and nine boards. Forward Mike Simpson (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.) recorded a double-double with 14 points and a season-high 11 rebounds.
The Profs have a 9-1 record with a six-game win streak. The Knights are 5-4 overall. Guard DeShawn Lowman (so. Wilmington, DE/Concord) led Neumann with 13 points and guard Kevin Green (jr. Chester, PA/Chester) followed with 11. Guard Tyreek Riddick (so. Philadelphia, PA/Math Civics and Sciences) added nine points while guard Shakeem Stevens (fr. Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) and forwards James Butler (so. Philadelphia, P/Vaux) and Mel Weldon (sr. Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic) had six apiece.
The score was tied four times in the first half. The last one at 23 came with 4:47 remaining after Robinson’s layup. Forward Skylar Moore (jr. Westville, NJ/Hempstead (NY)) added a basket (3:55) and Robinson hit a three (3:13) for a five-point advantage (28-23). Green had a three-pointer (1:55), which cut the deficit to two (30-28). Rowan closed the period with a 6-2 run to lead 36-30 at the break. Moore sank two foul shots while center Dan Brogan (jr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) and Robinson each had a basket.
The Profs started the second stanza with an 8-1 spurt for a 13-point advantage (44-31) at 17:14. O’Connor drained a three at 15:29, which made the score 54-34. Green had a layup and the Knights trailed 60-43 (10:57). Forward Chris Gross’ (jr. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) basket (10:01) put Rowan ahead by 21 points (64-43). Simpson had two points at the line (5:52) and Robinson scored with a jumper (5:14) to lead 73-51. Forward TJ Booth’s (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) basket put the Profs ahead by 25 points (80-55) with 1:49 on the clock. He also had two free throws at the 43 second mark (84-58). Guard Darryl Robinson (jr. Franklin, NJ/Franklin) had a layup for Rowan (0:28) and guard Sawyer Hand (fr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made a three for Neumann (0:15) to end the game. O’Connor led all scorers in the final half with 14 points.
After the break, Rowan travels to the University of Valley Forge on Saturday, January 3 for a 3 p.m. contest.
