While senior PDP leader and former finance minister Tariq Hameed Karra in his addressed castigated the government for waging war with the young population of the state.

He said that the party (PDP) was formed to restore dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to end the State’s political and economic despair. On this occasion MLA Dr Mohammad Shafi, Sonaullah Rathsuna, Zone President Hissamudin Massodi, Youth Leader Nazir Ah Yatoo and others were also present.

Baig said while the state needs a good and just administration too, but of political problem had to be addressed for achieving lasting peace. PDP during its brief time in the government created conducive environment where even India and Pakistan came close together to find a way forward in this regard, but the momentum could not survive subsequent events and changes

He said the state after witnessing destruction and political turmoil for many years had reposed its trust repeatedly in democratic process and had participated in elections to choose their representatives to various institutions like the parliament, state assembly, urban bodies and panchayats. But, unfortunately the NC led government eroded their credibility and as a result even the chief minister of the state is not taken seriously by any one whether it is the common man, his cabinet colleagues or the government of India.

Baigh said the next elections will in a major way be about restoration of the institution of Chief Minister as not a mere occupant of a chair but as a leader of the state whose voice should matter and carry the weight that it deserves. Baig said during the past five years the state witnessed very depressing moments when even announcements about the imposition and lifting of curfew was announced by some officials from New Delhi.

Seeking decisive mandate of the people to solve the issues of the state, he said the PDP has created a new space within the democratic system for the resolution of Kashmir issue. “PDP being conscious of its public responsibility seeks to re-dedicate itself to redeeming the situation. Restoration of the dignity, honour and safety of the lives of our men, women and children is our foremost concern”, he said.

Speaking on the occasion the former Finance Minister and the PDP’s parliamentary candidate for Srinagar constituency, Tariq Hameed Karra said, said unemployment is a huge challenge and we will need to have a clear policy on tackling it and providing remunerative and dignified jobs to our educated and skilled population. He said the present government has utterly failed on this crucial front and instead of having resolved their problems it has targeted the youth as ‘enemies of the state’ and demonized them as stone-pelters, drug addicts and criminals.

He said youth are the real asset of a nation and if we fail in realizing their potential we can never hope to build a self-reliant and self respecting nation. “No government is worth its salt if it fails the youth,” he said.

Karra said the functionaries of the present government are neck deep in corruption and it is virtually a mafia Raaj in the State. He said the people shall have to give a befitting reply to NC in upcoming polls for its misdeeds.
