Cyclone Phailin is ready to strike the coast. Rail routes stalled and alternative routes being explored. The water level has started rising. The speed of the wind has suddenly heightened. The people of this area are very poor. The agencies had under-estimated the cyclone Phailin.
Indian Navy, Indian army,Air force and coastal guards have been deployed with emergency measures and readiness to cope up with the situation.
Though government has taken some steps but people feel insecure.
After Gopalpur and Para deep, the rainfall has started in Puri and the beach is fully submerged. The sea waves are more than 5ft higher dancing a tandav natriya. Puri will have the maximum effect. Puri is a famous place with famous temple and the town is full of Indian and foreign tourists.
Water has started flowing inside and media persons have been told to leave the beach. Some of the merchant vessels have been given emergency warning and an advisory has been issued. The wind speed and current is increasing and no local person is seen here. They all have been evacuated.
No food is available and water is flowing inside Puri. One of the walls at the port has already collapsed.
The rolling cyclone Phailin takes down the coast of Andhra and Odisha. It is expected to make touchdown anytime between 8 pm to 9 pm at Gopalpur in Odisha.
On Friday, a meteorologist warned that the severity of a cyclone could be more devastating than Hurricane Katrina which struck the United States in 2005.
