His username is Volkstod, and he says he is a 32-year-old male from Madison, Wisconsin. He claims to be of mixed Dutch and Swedish descent. He says he like to cook. This could be any number of profiles you could find on MySpace. But this is hardly an everyday social network.
The background for his page is a foggy red overlaid with rows of Nazi eagles. Angry heavy metal plays when the page loads. It’s sung in German. He says one of his turnoffs are women who “…do not do what they can for there family and race.”
Welcome to the world of newsaxon.com, which bills itself as “An online community for whites by whites”. This is where the racists meet. In fact, they say they are “Just a bunch of White Guys and Gals who run a website…”
A Nazi website.
One of Volstod’s friends goes by the username of SugaSuga42. If her picture and description are any indication, she is a cute 18-year-old computer science major from Hutchinson, Kansas. Her turnoffs are “”Non-whites.”
These pages even look eerily similar to MySpace. They have friends, blogs, and picture areas. And through this site, the message of hate finds allies—and a voice. In his latest blog, Volkstod bitterly complains about the minorities who have moved into his neighborhood. His bitterness is visible;
“In less then a year of living here there has been a huge influx of mud’s and swine… there is a group of Mexican circus midgets that live right next door to me.”
On another site, a user who goes by Lollirot has a poster decrying “racial mixing”. She is another pretty 18-year-old female, from Vlaams-Brabant Belgium. At the bottom of her page, she has a YouTube clip from an episode of South Park.
The clip starts with Kyle and Cartman inside a burning factory. Helicopters show up to rescue the trapped boys, but Cartman won’t allow Kyle to leave. Instead, Cartman pulls a gun, and demands Kyle to turn over his “Jew gold” that he is supposed to wear around his neck in a small pouch. But Kyle outwits Cartman and gets away.
MySpace has more than demonstrated the power of the Internet to create and strengthen community. But that same power is available to those who oppose the American way of life as well. And while newsaxon.com may only be a drop in the bucket in comparison, it is a foothold nevertheless. And that alone makes it worth our attention.
