Delhi Daredevils humbled Deccan Chargers by 12 runs to clinch a thriller in the 37th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Thursday.
Chasing 195 to win the match, the Chargers failed to reach the target despite valuable contributions from their top order batsmen including Shahid Afridi and Rohit Sharma.
Amit Mishra was the man of the moment for Delhi as he had 15 runs to defend in the final over and he responded with a hat-trick to seal the victory for the hosts.
Mishra finished with 5 for 17. He even took the crucial wickets of the top-order batsmen – Afridi and Gibbs while Farveez Maharoof and Glenn McGrath took two wickets each.
Afridi blasted 33 off just 14 balls while Sharma made 35 and Venugopal Rao 34. They all hit three fours and two sixes.
Earlier, Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and invited Delhi Daredevils to bat first but the decision proved to be in favor of Delhi.
Opener Gautam Gambhir made smashing 79 runs with seven fours and three sixes and Shikhar Dhawan made 68 with eight fours. They added 133 for the second wicket and put their team in strong position to finish at 194 for four in the allotted 20 overs.
