The G M Diet stands for General Motors Diet. It has been in use since 1985. The GM Diet was formulated by General Motors along with the Food and Drug Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture for its employees.
The diet aimed at making the employees healthy so as to extract more productivity from them. The results of the diet were very good as many employees lost 10 to 17 pounds of weight in just one week! The workers were happy with the results and felt more confident, energetic and efficient.
The diet does not involve any complex procedures or ingredients and thus, was deemed as a successful way to lose weight. It is simple and easy to follow and gives fast and effective results.
How Does It Work?
The plan includes scheduling the meals and limiting it to a level it involves consuming ingredients like fruits, vegetables, brown rice and chicken. It focuses on consuming a combination of complex carbohydrates, fruits, low- calorie items and increased amount of water. All these ingredients, if consumed according to the diet, will lead to weight loss up to 10 pounds within a week.

GM Diet Day 1
On day 1, include all the fruits in your diet, especially cantaloupe and watermelon. Other fruits like papaya, kiwi, apples oranges etc but do avoid bananas. Consume 8 to 12 glasses of water during the day. Do not starve yourself at all. The fruits are rich in fibre which is much needed for our body and it also helps us to stay full for longer. They are low in fat and will help flush out toxins from the body.
GM Diet Day 2
This is a veggie day! Choose vegetables of your choice which can be carrots, beans, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage etc. and eat them cooked or uncooked. If cooked, that should be without oil. Also, have a big boiled potato and 8 to 12 glasses of water. Vegetables have the nutrients your body needs to sustain. Low-fat butter or olive oil can be used for flavouring only if absolutely required.
GM Diet Day 3
Include all the vegetables and fruits consumed on the first and second days of the diet on your third day. Avoid bananas and potato. Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water. The body will be adjusted to the diet till your third day. Fruits would be a welcome for your body after eating vegetables for a day. This combination will help the body replenish itself and will also break the monotony of the first two days. The diet will provide the body with all the nutrients required by it and the water will flush out the toxins.
GM Diet Day 4
Consume eight bananas and 3 to 4 glasses of milk. It’s up to you how you distribute the eight bananas for the whole day. Also, consume 3 to 4 glasses of milk during the day. You can also add a bowl of soup if drinking milk becomes monotonous. Bananas will provide instant energy and milk will make the bones stronger.
GM Diet Day 5
This diet day involves a little bit different menu for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Vegetarians can consume brown rice with six tomatoes while non-vegetarians can consume lean protein chicken breast with six tomatoes. This day is a good one as compared to other diet days as the body gets to eat something different and new. Increase the intake of water from 8to 12 glasses to 15 glasses in order to battle high amounts of uric acid produced by our body. Brown rice is a good source of complex carbohydrates and is high in fibre which aids digestion. Non-vegetarians can have either fish or chicken lightly cooked.
GM Diet Day 6
Consume any amount and type of vegetables today. Vegetarians can have brown rice while on – vegetarians can have lean protein chicken breast or fish. This is again a high intake of food day. Vegetables have to be boiled and not fried. By this time, you will be able to notice the weight loss and will feel more motivated to finish the diet in the best way. Non- vegetarians can eat 500gms of skinless chicken and all vegetables excluding tomatoes and potatoes. It is a rich in fibre diet and provides needed nutrients to the body.
GM Diet Day 7
On the last day of your successful diet, you can consume brown rice an assortment of vegetables and sugarless fruit juices. Fruit juices will flush out the toxins and other ingredients will provide the body with nutrients.
Following a diet may not be very easy but if we have the will to stick to it, we can surely make it successful. A successful diet plan with positive results will motivate us to follow it up and achieve what we dream of.
