There are different plants in our surroundings. These plants differ from one another but they all give us oxygen, raw materials for shelter, foods ,medicines, clothing and other products. Some plants give nutrition to us by providing us with fruits and vegetables and other plants provide us with source of income by providing raw materials.
Plants are so important and it is good to know more about them; their basic parts, functions, their development and reproduction. One of the basic part of the plant is the root. The root grows under the ground and constitute the root system. The root that grow from the plant seed is called as the “primary root”. The primary root is the root that grows downward from the plant seed. As the plant grows, another root goes along with the “primary root”, this root is the “secondary root”, the secondary root penetrates further down the ground as the plant grows further.
The stem is another basic part of the plant; this part grows upward or above the ground. Stem differ from plants to plants. Others have herbaceous stems while others have woody stems. Herbaceous stems have soft and juicy body and usually green in color. Woody stems have hard body and grow taller. It also increase in size and form branches as the plant grows older.
Leave is another basic part of the plant.. Different plants also have different leaves. They varies from shapes, sizes, textures as well as in colors but usually they are in green.
These basic parts of the plant functions differently, the root is responsible for carrying food nutrients from the soil to the stem. It also supports the plant from falling since it anchors in the ground. The stem supports the entire plant structure above the ground. It also functions as the passage way of food nutrients from the root going to the other parts of the plant. It also serve as storage of food as well as water and produces new living tissues of the plant.
The leave on the other hand manufacture the plant’s food. This is done through the process of photosynthesis wherein carbon dioxide, water and sunlight are utilized. Some of the leaves of the other plants function as storage of foods and waters and other plant’s leaves serve as food for both animals and humans.
