After allegedly political and economical discrimination,
people of Jammu now reported discrimination in distribution of food grains by
Consumer Affair and Public Distribution Department. “It is not only in terms of
ration but LPG, kerosene oil and other essential commodities fell short during
winter as Darbar Move employees mange to arrange all necessary commodities with
the influence of political and economic power leaving locals suffering”,
citizen said and added that locals being poor and non influential could not
afford black-marketed prizes.
To this, deputation of citizens’ visited BJP party
headquarters to meet State President Shamsher Singh Manhas to lodge their
complaint against continuing deficit in ration quota for people of Jammu owing
diversion of a part of it for durbar move employees and displaced people.
Members of deputation presented details of exact amount fixed for release to
each family through ration depots and actual amount available to each family
after deducting ration for supply to Durbar Move employees and displaced
They said that officially stipulated quota per family for
Jammu is 35 kgm which is also quite inadequate but authorities claimed that
amount was fixed according to 2001 census. They further said that in-fact only
20 kg ration was released to consumers instead of 35 kgs.
Manhas gave a patient hearing to deputation and said that
party leadership had taken it up with concerned state authorities. He further
said that while party was not against curtailing ration quota being supplied to
displaced people or Durbar Move employees, party had suggested that it should
not be deducted from ration quota routinely earmarked for families permanently
and already residing in Jammu. He suggested to government to take immediate
steps to redress the grievance because it further adds to sense of
discrimination being felt by people of Jammu.
