A Chinese director, A Gan, said he’s going to adapt Cervantes’ master piece Don Quijote de la Mancha into a movie , and the Chinese version will be set in the Tang Dynasty.
For example, they were both willing to fight for justice, they both mastered some kind of kung fu, and they both liked to roam around, so "it will be easy for the adaption even if Chinese audiences are not familiar with the background of the Middle Age," he said with confidence.
He even changed the Spanish hero’s name to "Tang Ji Ke De", a Chinese pronunciation of Don Quijote.
The movie will be the first 3D movie in Asia and the cost, according to him, will be around 70 million yuan (US$ 10.2 million).
The story of Don Quijote was introduced to China as early as the 1900’s by two Chinese litterateurs Lin Shu and Chen Jialin, who gave the book a very Chinese name called "Mo Xia Zhuan", or "The Legend of a Magical knight".
This is not A Gan’s first time to interpret a foreign movie in his own way. Previously he’d already tried on "Torremolinos 73", the Spanish movie with sexual humor by Pablo Berger.
