New Delhi/Jammu, November 19 (Scoop News) –The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) has hailed the Bangalore High Court order staying the arrest of Naveen Soorinje, correspondent of the Kannada Channel, Kasturi TV.
Soorinje, whose reporting led to the arrest of Hindu Jagarana Vedike goons who had attacked women at a party in Mangalore was himself slapped with charges of rioting, criminal trespass, assault on women and a plethora of other charges.
It may be recalled that the DUJ had demanded the immediate release of Naveen Soorinje and a probe by the CBI into the entire episode. It had also called upon the Press Council of India to initiate action into the matter. This stand of the DUJ was supported by the Commonwealth Journalists Union and the International Federation of Journalists. It also got support of various bodies in Bangalore.
