An unbelievable day from start to finish!
I started out at 7:45 walking my kids to school and interviewing them and another chaperone about their feelings.
Then off to my first polling place. I spoke to a brand new citizen, children waiting with their parents, one man who voted first for Eisenhower! Everyone was wonderful, enthusiastic and excited. There were lines all over the place.
My second polling place had about the same length of wait and I ran into lots of parents from my children’s school. Again, happy faces, happy waiting, happy voting.
Our third stop was an even longer line and although we didn’t run into anyone electioneering inappropriately, I was told that when the polls opened, someone had plastered the area with stickers for one of the propositions. By the time we got there, it was all gone. And I snagged a No on Prop 8 sign at the last minute from a table across the street.
Another stop at my own polling place to see my husband vote and he was so eloquent. But it wasn’t time for me yet.
Came home to upload videos and finally have breakfast. Picked up my kids to go vote myself, very exciting!
And then the waiting began. Every time they called a state for Obama, we screamed and the kids came out to see whether it was over or not. At 8:00, we counted down the last five seconds and they called it. OBAMA WINS!!!
We cried, we laughed, we drank, we hugged. We cried some more. We’ll probably cry again tomorrow.
Contratulations, America!
