Currently, the entire universe seems to be android crazy. To some, it is not always affordable to spend money on internet especially if it is 3G. The trick to such a problem is the knowledge of how to access free internet on your android. Here are some few facets.
Using Wi-Fi. You will need a Wi-Fi hotspot. It is a wireless access point which provides internet access to all networks devices. They can be found in public locations and business areas. You can as well use it at home if you have a wireless router. When you are out and about, you will need to turn on Wi-Fi on your android device. A list of Wi-Fi networks will be shown and you can connect to them. Some are locked and you will require a password to connect. Hotels and cafés will often provide their passwords if you ask. Wi-Fi can also be accessed at your work since most business places have them. Caution is however required since while using unsecured Wi-Fi hotspots, one can snoop on you or even hack your device.
There are also portable Wi-Fi hotspots which one can use. The person owning the connection can agree to share the data connection for free if requested.
Using VPN. Virtual Private Network is a technology which uses tunneling to allow you to create a secure connection to other networks over the internet. Once your android device is connected to a VPN, the device will act as if it is on a similar network as the VPN hence allowing you to securely access local network resources even when you are absent at the VPN’s location. Android devices have a built-in VPN client found under wireless and network’s settings. Select the VPN protocol to be used that is PPTP, L2TP, L2TP/IPsec PSK or L2TP/IPsec CRT. The last one is the most secure but it requires a digital certificate. You will therefore need to download the certificates and store them on your phone.
There are third-party VPN client apps which are not supported by the built-in android client. Some VPN clients offer free VPN services for android users. You will have to find these third-party client software and install them on your phone. Some are available on the market at no cost and they will work on your android device as long as it is rooted. Examples include Hotspot Shield VPN which enables you to enjoy unlimited VPN access for free as it is supported by ads.
VPN’s have an advantage over Wi-Fi as they are more secure especially if you are using internet via a public network.
Using proxy servers. There are still working proxy servers that can enable a user to access free internet. You can either input the IP addresses manually on your phone if you know them or download the applications and install them.
