The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths arrested an advocate and a doctor following allegations of claiming false accident insurance. The two accused of claiming insurance to the tune of more than one crore rupees by stage managing accidents.
CBI alleged that the false FIR’s are issued based on fake medical certificates. The accused, identified as Dr Surender Reddy, an orthopaedic surgeon, and N. Rami Reddy, an advocate, both from Warangal were arrested and produced before the special court for CBI cases at Nampally,Hyderabad,India on Tuesday.
The court sent them in judicial remand till April 18. The accused filed a bail petition which will come up for hearing on Wednesday. CBI booked the case after a complaint lodged by the vigilance officer of Oriental Insurance Company under section 120 B(criminal conspiracy) 420 IPC cheating read with section 13 — abuse of power. The CBI also suspects the involvement of an sub inspector who issued the FIR regarding an accident that didn’t happen.
In four cases, claims were made fraudulently to the tune of Rs 42 lakh, 25 lakh, 78 lakh and 6 lakh the investigating agency said. The CBI alleged that the accused doctor, Surender Reddy, gave a false certificate of injury and the SI registered an FIR.
A man posing as a driver of the vehicle was arrested and fined by the court. Later, the advocate filed a claim on the basis of the FIR and medical certificate and the case was settled in the Lok Adalat . "It is a big scandal. We are investigation other insurance claims in the district," a CBI official said.
