The National Conference President said that the coalition government in the State has made history in establishing Panchayat system and transferring powers to these democratically elected bodies. “As the Chief Minister of the State, I had initiated restoration of Panchayat system but the Mufti dispensation torpedoed this process when they came to power”, he said adding that empowerment of Panchayats would pave the way for all round and equitable development in the State. “This would also help nurturing women empowerment in the State”, he maintained.
Dr. Farooq underlined the development of Gujjars, Bakerwals, Paharis, Gaddis and other weaker sections of the society and said that the steps taken by the coalition government led by Omar Abdullah would give new dimension to the faster development of these communities. He said their representation in different Advisory Boards and Panchayats would also pave the way for their holistic development.
The Union Minister asked the Panchayats to formulate proposals with the assistance of the District Administration for providing solar lights to the people in far-flung and remote areas. “Send these proposals to my Ministry with the recommendations of the State Government, I would work out a comprehensive scheme for this purpose”, he added.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah also underlined the programmes and measures of the State Government in the sectors of the Information Technology, Technical Education, Higher Education, School Education, Skills Development, Power, Agriculture, Horticulture, Tourism and Industries. He said the new initiatives of the coalition government would yield befitting results for the people in general and youth of the State in particular.
The public meeting was also addressed by Minister for Industries, Surjeet Singh Slathia , Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Devender Singh Rana, Provincial President, National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President (Youth) NC, Surinder Singh Bunty, Provincial President (Women Wing), NC, Vijay Laxmi Dutta, Legislator, Bimla Luthra, District Presidents NC, Dian Chand, Block Presidents, Romi Khajuria, D. S. Bindu, Ravinder Singh Salathia and former Legislator, Kashmira Singh.
In their speeches they highlighted the achievements of the coalition government led by Omar Abdullah and said that innovative measures have been taken to carry development process to every nook and corner of the State. They said equitable development of all regions and welfare of all sections of the society is the benchmark of present government’s governance.
They stressed on strengthening of the coalition at all levels adding that this would help to achieve the target of prosperous Jammu and Kashmir and all round development in all fields of life on fast track.
The speakers listed the measures taken by the government for empowerment of general people through the establishment of Panchayat system in the State and transfer of powers to these institutions. They also talked about the enactment of Public Service Guarantee Act in this direction adding that the Act has given legal rights to the general people to receive public services in prescribed timeframe.
Describing this Act historic and innovative step to provide good-governance and make administration prompt and responsive to public demands besides helping in reducing the chances of corruption, they said that
