Fatima reminds India of its democratic obligations

Srinagar, April 10 (Scoop News)_Women’s Democratic Forum (WDF) leader, Tanveer Fatima, on Thursday held a peaceful protest demonstrations along with her party activists against the election processes being conducted by Indian establishments in Kashmir.

She also demanded the ending of Tosmaidan lease.

Speaking to media persons Ms Fatima said elections cannot be the
substitute of plebiscite and in presence of security forces conducting of elections is an official operation rather than a democratic process.

“We have always rejected elections in valley and will also reject it in future till we achieve our basic goal and it is our collective responsibility to safe guard the ongoing movement”, she asserted.

Fatima said by boycotting elections,she wanted to convey to the world community that “freedom is our birth right which no one can usurp it from us through might”.

She said boycotting of the polls is her legitimate right under the purview of legal and democratic set-up.

“Democracy is termed as the battle of ideas and ideologies”, Fatima said.

Also freedom of expression is the basic right of every individual of the modern world and that the same is also among the very foundations of every democratic country, she said.

Fatima said it was our misfortune that mainstream political parties, for their parochial political interest, were tightening the rope of slavery around the neck of their future generations by participating in elections .
