swear it’s been a month since I saw Revolutionary Road in the theater. In the time since, I’ve seen plenty written about the film, good and bad. There’s been talk of Kate Winslet getting wildly snubbed, Michael Shannon getting recognition for a fine performance and/or hammered for playing a terribly-written role, and director Sam Mendes getting alternately praised or lambasted for his second trip into suburbia, following American Beauty. Me, I’m torn. The intellectual in me wants to delve deep into the symbolism of this, that and the other, all the while deconstructing the screenplay line-by-line, to get to the essence of Mendes’ film. But the popcorn-stuffing idiot in me wants to say “Good effing god, why would anyone want to watch a two-hour argument?”
