The Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) on Monday welcomed the assurance by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani that neither the name of the PML-Q leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi was included in the First Information Report (FIR) regarding the Karsaz blast of last year nor he would be implicated in that case.
“We have called off our boycott from the joint session of the Parliament after the assurance by the prime minister who said on the Floor of the House that Pervaiz Elahi had nothing to do with the Karsaz blast,” said Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, the parliamentary leader of the PML-Q in the National Assembly while addressing a press conference here at the PML House.
Flanked by PML-Q leaders Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Riaz Pirzada, Senator Tariq Azeem, Senator Dr Khalid Ranjha, Sheihk Waqas Akram and Marvi Memon, Faisal Saleh Hayat said the statements by some Sindh ministers had adversely affected the efforts aimed at creating reconciliatory environment which was the result of hectic efforts by the prime minister and the PML-Q leadership.
“We had made historic precedent by adopting a positive political course and avoiding confrontational posture as an opposition party. However, the information that Pervaiz Elahi was being implicated in Karsaz blast was shocking and it badly affected the reconciliatory efforts,” he said.
Senator Kamil Ali Agha said his party had fulfilled its commitment of making positive political traditions during past eight months. “Despite the fact that our workers and leaders were subjected to political victimization in Sindh, Punjab and other provinces, we supported every positive step by the government.
We had also given support to the PM that was also an historic step,” he said. According to Kamil Ali Agha President Zardari had also said in his address to the United Nations General Assembly last month that Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by some elements linked to al-Qaeda and Taliban. However, he said, the statements by some Sindh government officials were irritating that the government would include the letter of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed in the investigation of Karsaz blast in which she had mentioned the names of some PML-Q leaders.
He said the party had staged a boycott from the in-camera joint session of the Parliament on Monday. “However, we called it off after the assurance by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani that the name of Ch Pervaiz Elahi was not part of the FIR and he would not be implicated in the investigation,” he added. Dr Khalid Ranjha raised question that the registration of two separate FIRs against one incident were contrary to law.
“The registration of a new FIR regarding Karsaz blast reflects dishonesty as this is against the law to register two FIRs against one incident,” he concluded. Earlier, the PML-Q protested and staged a walkout over filing of a new FIR against the PML-Q leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi during the Parliament’s in-camera session.
However, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani twice assured the house that name of Ch Pervaiz Elahi was not included in the FIR and no action would be taken on the basis of the new FIR that was registered on October 18.
After the assurance of the prime minister, Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Syed Khursheed Shah, Advisor to PM on Interior Rehman Malik and PML-N Khawja Saad Rafiq went to opposition to bring back the Q-league legislators back to House.
