The first of the general strike was seen pretty successful where most of the vehicles and market remained close for the day. It was reported that around 34 people were arrested by Nepal police at different location of Kathmandu and Lalitpur while enforcing general strike led by the 33-party alliance.
Though no serious case has been reported but various cases of vandalism and arson attacks have been reported from different parts of the country.
Speaking at a press conference CPN-Maoist Secretary Dev Gurung said, “The four parties are showing an autocratic attitude by deciding to hold elections excluding our party. Our demands were very genuine and valid where the four parties are trying to sideline it. If this situation persists anything could happen without the government and major political parties have to take the responsibility. In such situation elections cannot not provide a solution for the country, we cannot move ahead making more mistakes, we have to rectify it and CPN- Maoist is taking that step to correct that mistake.”
Similarly, a pressure cooker bomb and a socket bomb were found in Golbazar of Siraha where Nepal Army (NA) defused the bombs. Meanwhile in Rasuwa, a NA team disposed a bomb planted by an unknown group at Sundhara Higher Secondary School, Dhanapani.
Likewise, in Parbat, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted at Bagaincha Chowk at Shibalaya VDC in Kushma Bazaar which was diffused by NA team today.
NA bomb disposal team also defused a pressure cooker bomb planted at Mahadev Gate at Sankhu today. A team also defused an IED planted at Kalikasharan Higher Secondary School premises at Lapsephedi.
