Jammu, September 27 (Scoop News)-The Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah along with Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, other civilian and military dignitaries paid floral tribute to martyr and brave soldier, Dafadar (Havildar) Indra Singh at a solemn wreath laying ceremony at Air Force Station Jammu, today. Dafadar Indra Singh attained martyrdom alongwith other three martyrs, Lt Col Bikram Jeet Singh, Sowar (Sepoy) Kiran Kumar Reddy and Sowar Meesala Srinavas during a fierce encounter with terrorists at Samba Garrison on 26 Sep 2013. The day long operation by Army also eliminated all the three terrorists without damaging further. The mortal remain of Martyr Indra was sent to Rajasthan after the wreath-laying ceremony by a service aircraft.
During the wreath laying ceremony, from Military side, the wreaths were laid by Lt Gen P Bakshi, GOC Rising Star Corps, Maj Gen Balbir Singh, GOC Gurj Division, Maj Gen Ashwani Kumar, GOC Tiger Division, Group Captain SP Singh, Stn Commander Air Force Station Jammu and other field commanders. The civil dignitaries who were present in the ceremony and laid wreaths were DGP J&K Ashok Prasad, IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, SSP Airport Ashok Sharma and other state govt officials.
The notes of the bugle playing the `Last-Post’ were a testimony to the valour and the supreme sacrifice of those martyrs and brave soldiers.
It may be mentioned here that in the early morning of September 26, three terrorists, who were dressed in Army combat uniform and carrying AK-47 automatic rifles and grenades, stormed Hiranagar police station around 6.30 am, killing four policemen and two civilians. Within the next hour, they had attacked the Army camp 20 km away in adjoining Samba district, on the side of NH-1A, where they killed sentry at the gate and entered the camp.
The Commander and Deputy Commander of Samba Brigade immediately rushed to the spot and took over the control of the operation leading from the front. The quick and prompt action by the Army ensured that no terrorist would be allowed to escape.
In the ensuing firefight, the terrorists resorted to heavy firing using AK 47s and UBGLs and lobbed grenades indiscriminately. In a swift, surgical and precise operation, all three terrorists were killed after gun battle at the camp.
The entire operation was monitored and controlled by Maj Gen Balbir Singh, GOC Gurj Division.
Three AK 47 Rifles with magazines, one UBGL with six UBGL grenades, four Hand Grenades, Compass, Improvised Explosives in four bottles, knife, lighter, bags, one 9mm Pistol & magazines, hand calf, huge quantity of ammunition, dry fruits and other stores were also recovered from the terrorists during search operations. Affiliation of terrorists is being ascertained.
