Coldwater of Lee’s Summit will host its annual Winterfest fundraiser Saturday, February 27 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. This year’s theme is “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
Special guests for the evening will be Les Norman, former major league baseball player and current radio host, author and TV analyst for the Royals, and Robert Rodgers, inspirational speaker and author of “Into the Deep: one man’s story of how tragedy took his family but could not take his faith” and “Rise Above.”
Norman was born into poverty and endured childhood abuse but overcame these obstacles to become a major league baseball player. Today he is passionate and committed to helping others reach their fullest potential despite past, current or perceived future obstacles.
In addition, this year’s gala will feature a special tribute to the late Mark McDaniel, one of the founders of the Coldwater’s Friends Day Food Pantry, who passed away in 2015. McDaniel managed the food pantry, including the Harvesters orders and deliveries, and always welcomed those who attended with kind words and encouragement.
Guests can register for Winterfest by visiting either the Coldwater website (www.coldwater.me) or the event website (www.tinyurl.com/coldwaterwinterfest2016).
Proceeds from Winterfest benefit Coldwater programs, including the Friends Day Food Pantry and Clothes Closet every second and fourth Saturday of the month with a Hot Meal program; Senior Mobile Pantry for homebound seniors; No Hungry Kids! weekend backpacks of food, including Harvesters’ BackSnack program for elementary children; food support for the Lee’s Summit middle and high schools; and No Hungry Kids! Summer Lunches and BBQs. Additional Coldwater programs include the League of Smiles t-ball league and the Out4Others Missions Week youth volunteer training program for students in grades 5th through 8th grade.
