Srinagar/Jammu, February 9(Scoop News) – An Indian army Jawan killed in a fresh snow avalanche in Kupwara district of Kashmir Valley on Tuesday, a day after 17 armymen met a similar fate during a winter warfare training exercise on steep slopes of a ski resort Gulmarg on Monday.
According to defence spokesman,the avalanche hit Tangdhar on Tuesday trapping fourteen army personnel but all the 14 army personnel were rescued from the deep snow. one of them died later.

According to Defence sources, no one is missing now and only one team of the camp was hit by avalanche.
There were 450 personnel in the camp In all,. Earlier, the avalanche had hit an army high altitude warfare school at Khilan Marg.
Defence spokesman said that the dead included an officer, Lt. Prateek, and 16 other jawans, all from Army’s prestigious High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS).
It may be mentioned here that it has been snowing heavily in tourist resort Gulmarg and its surrounding areas in the past few days with reports pouring in of dumping of six-foot of snow in certain areas.
Snow Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) had issued an avalanche warning on Sunday evening and advised people living in high altitude areas not to venture out as the area was getting heavy snowfall.
Meanwhile J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has expressed grief over the deaths that occurred at Khilanmarg-Gulmarg due to severe snow avalanche that swept the area early this morning.

The Chief Minister has conveyed his condolences with the bereaved families and assured that efforts are being made to rescue alive all the trapped soldiers.
The Governor, N. N. Vohra, has expressed profound shock and grief over the tragic death of seventeen soldiers and injuries to several others as a result of a snow avalanche in the Gulmarg area yesterday.
In his message, the Governor expressed his sincere sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. He has also written a personal letter to the Northern Army Commander, Lt. Gen. B. S. Jaswal, to convey his sympathy to the families of those who have lost their lives.
The Governor also prayed for speedy recovery of the soldiers injured in the incident.

The Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani is overseeing the relief and rescue operations and so far 70 persons have been rescued alive, though the continuous heavy snowfall is hampering the rescue operations.
