Fruit industry mainstay of Kashmir’s economy :Vakil

Rafiabad ,August 18, (Scoop News)- Sr. Vice President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today expressed concern over the sluggish development of Horticulture Sector and said that Government has till date failed to launch a result oriented programme for the development of the Fruit Industry. He said that this important sector is clearly a victim of ignorance and negligence because half of the production of 16000 MT still gets rotten due to lack of marketing and other allied facilities. He said that it is a fact that 50% production goes to dustbins because no benchmarks were kept to establish Cold Storages or Juice Factories equipped with latest technology. Mr. Vakil urged the chief minister to take immediate steps to save this vital industry which provides livelihood to lakhs of people directly or indirectly. He said “The fruit industry is the mainstay of Kashmir’s economy but still government is not concerned about it. Mr. Vakil was addressing two public meetings in Doabgah and Hadipora Rafiabad in District Baramulla.
Mr. Vakil also appealed youth to get united and announce war against corruption which has become a menace in the society that is ruining the whole system and eliminating the levels of transparency. He said that it is the duty of youth to bring awareness among people about corrupt politicians and their practices. Mr. Vakil also stressed upon youth to ensure complete rejection of exploiters, corrupt and dishonest persons in forthcoming assembly elections. He said that tainted and corrupt politicians must not be afforded another opportunity to loot the state exchequer. Mr. Vakil also appealed Congress high command not to field such candidates in any future elections whose credentials are labeled as corrupt and tainted because of pending corruption cases in various Courts and Commissions. He said that such elements must not be allowed to hold any post in the government or the party.
