Gertrude Baines, the world’s oldest living person, died today at 115. She was seven years younger than Jeanne-Louise Calment, who was the oldest person in recorded history, who lived to be 122 and died in 1997.
Gertrude Baines allegedly enjoyed a diet of fried chicken, bacon and ice cream. She became the world’s oldest living person in January, when a 115-year-old in Portugal died.
Gertrude Baines’ physician said she likely suffered a heart attack.
Jeanne-Louise Calment gained particular notoriety at 113 when reporters discovered she was the last living person to know Vincent Van Gogh on his centennial.
