Jammu, March 13 (Scoop News) –Underlining the importance of multifaceted approach in the all round development of power sector in the State, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Tuesday told the Legislative Assembly that government is focusing on generation, transmission, distribution and other aspects in power sector simultaneously.
Intervening during Question Houser in the House, Omar Abdullah said that restructuring and unbundling of power sector is on cards for improving and upgrading generation and distribution of electricity in the State.
Omar Abdullah said that the Cabinet has approved the recommendations of Cabinet Sub-Committee on getting back power projects from NHPC. “Obviously NHPC will not be happy over this decision”, he said adding that government is moving forward in this direction and will share the necessary measures to be taken regarding payments and other aspects with the legislature. “We will take the House in confidence”, he said adding that the Nitti-Gritty about payments, etc. has not been finalized yet.
The Chief Minister said that in order to help upgrade HT/LT network government is considering a scheme to dovetail it with Legislators Constituency Development Fund (CDF) whereunder erection of poles and installation of transmission lines will be addressed instead of providing transformers.
Omar Abdullah said that the State Government is also talking to Centre on the implementation of Rangarajan Commission recommendations and said that it would continue to do so to make a necessary dent in this regard. He said government will also taken necessary action about the Class-IV and other employees of the PDD and PDC as per the agreement.
