Okay, Okay! this may sound a little bit wierd to some, but if you haven’t tried it don’t knock it, because you don’t know what you’re missing.
Think, what are some of your favorite fruits?
How about Banana, or Cantalope, or Pineapple, or Honeydew Melon, how about Mango, or Peaches, maybe it’s Pears, or Apples, or Strawberries, or Kiwi, how about Grapes, or Cherries, or Fresh Figs.
Whatever it happens to be, you can change, enhance, and improve the flavor of it simply by grilling it. Every fruit regardless of type has its own natural sugar content in it which when activated enhances the flavor of the fruit making it just that much more tender and juicy. Grilling speeds up the process, thus releasing the natural sugar and intensifying the flavor of the fruit.
The best thing about this is you can serve it on a skewer, or mix it in a bowl like a fruit salad, serve it as a topping with icecream or cake. Let your imagination run wild because it will taste great no matter how you serve it.
Preparation:Get ahold of whatever fruit you desire. If it’s Bananas obviously they need peeling, as would your Cantalope, Honeydew Melon, Kiwi, or Pineapple or Mango. Keep in mind, you do not have to restrict your selection. It’s whatever your heart desires.
Slice it how ever you want it to, be it in thick full slices, or cubes.
In a large mixing bowl combine the following ingredients:
2 Table Spoons of either brown or white sugar
1/4 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice
1/4 T-Spoon of each Ground Cinnamon and Nutmeg
Add your Fruit or Fruits into this mixture and toss allowing the mixture to get into each piece of fruit.
Refrigerate this for a minimum of 1 Hour or longer this will allow the natural fruit juices to ooze out just a little to allow for even coating.
Pre-Heat your Grill to a Medium-High Heat.
Grilling:
The choice is yours. Do you want to skewer your fruit or simply lay it out on your grill? However you choose place your fruits on your grill plate, and allow it to rest over the heat for about 3 to 4 Minutes. This will awaken the natural sugar of the fruit plus it will help to infuse the spices into the flavor adding yet another dimension to the taste. Apples, Pineapple, Peaches and both Melons marry well with Cinnamon.
After 3 to 4 minutes remove your fruit from the grill and serve it up piping hot.
I love serving it up with a couple of scoops of Butterscotch Ripple Icecream. If I really want to awaken my tastebuds, I’ll serve it with a scoop or two of Frozen Lime or Lemon Sherbet.
This is a simply and tasty summertime dessert that you can enjoy out in the yard and it only takes a little simple thinking and planning as you choose your fruits.
