Novak Djokovic did what no othe player has done in the past few years- beat both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer back-to-back. He accomplished this feat en route to his second Master Series title of the season

Add to that his elimination of Andy Roddick in the quarterfinals, he had to go through the three best players in the world to win the AMS Montréal for the first time.

The 20-year-old beat the defending champ with his impressive serve and being able to come back from an adverse situation in the first set . Federer, who was playing in his first tournament since winning Wimbledon, had six set points against the young Serbian and could not take advantage. This would lead to a tiebreak and Djokovic would not be as forgiving.

In the second set Federer was his usual number-one self, winning 6-2. The thirdset would see Federer down early and he would come back only to end up in a tiebreak. Djokovic broke Federer´s serve in the minibreak and that was all she wrote. He went out to a 5-1 lead and would not turn back. For Djokovic, this was his second Masters Series title of the season after winning in Miami earlier in early April. With this win he will leapfrog over Andy Roddick in the ATP rankings, while Federer will stretch out his lead over second-ranked Rafael Nadal.

In a span of 72 hours, the summit of the tennis world just got a little bit more crowded. Rafa and Roger no longer seem to have that elbow room that they did earlier. Could Novak now be a legitimate contender for the US Open title? We will see how things go come Cincinnati when both of these player make their midweek debut.
