India is being kept in dark by the Fench Protocol Office as to whether Ms.Bruni whose official status as of now is that a of a girlfriend, until otherwise known, would accompany Mr.Sarkozy to India for the Republic Day celebrations.
A complete list of names expected to accompany the President does not curiously contain the name of Ms.Bruni;neither the Indian Officials are for sure that this implies that she may not visit nor the French officials in a position to comfim the accompaniment or nonaccompanyment. The stock answer from a close aid to the President is either an answer would be given on Monday or as soon as he comes to know of it.
In the absence of her confirmation about her visit and her status vis-a-vis the President in case she accompanies him, rumors are strife at the possibilty of her not accompanying him, but, join him later in time for theRepublic Day parade and subsequently for a visit to Tajmahal. The height of the rumor is that Mr.sarkozy would use his visit to the Taj, the symbol of eternal love, to announce his marriage with Ms.Bruni. May be for this reason, the scramble for the journalists to accompany him is a record high.
Would the President put an end to this hide and seek game atleast during his visit to India? We can only wait and watch.
Atleast on an another account, anlaysts observe that the President has done the right thing in not including Ms.Yade the youngest memeber of his cabinet. She is known for her outbursts every now and then. In a recent televised interview, she had criticised India for its failure to eradicate child labour. Unforuntately, she has nothing or little to say about human right abuses in her own country. France has the worst prisions anywhere in Europe and its treatment of illegal immigrants is anything but inhuman. The Presidnt can illafford to offend India and .for similar reason she was dropped from the visit of the Presidet to China
