The hub for Hindus’ major and Nepal’s most popular temple Pashupatinath is again surrounded in controversy for the appointment of the priest. The current Rajbhandaris, priest who are deemed as assistants of the traditional Indian priests and some associated persons have expressed discontent over the selection of Nepali head priest. From the past few centuries the Indian Bhattas (priests), have been worshipping the deity in a long transcending way where the conflict started when two new Nepali priests Bishnu Prasad Dahal and Salikram Dhakal were appointed by the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) on Sunday. The three Indian priests including the head priest Maha Baleshwor Bhatta resigned from their respective position showing, citing health reasons two weeks ago at the Ministry of Culture Tourism. The then kings of Nepal introduced the tradition of engaging Indian priests since 1800 BS, in the belief that they were well versed in the knowledge of Hindu rituals.
