The team of IARI scientists comprising Dr. R.R. Burman, Dr. Shantanu K. Dubey and Dr. Ishwari Singh along with Dr. Sanjay Swami, Programme Coordinator and his KVK team visited farmers field whom the seeds were distributed by KVK Jammu and various villages of R.S. Pura block for further identification of some villages to send IARI technology, ascertaining its effectiveness, sensitization of post office personnel and progressive farmers about their mutual and reciprocal linkages role in dissemination of technologies for 3 days i.e. 12 to 14 September.
At first day, team visited the field of progressive farmer Sham Gorkha of village Jindermelu who is also Chairmen of Jindermelu farmers club. IARI Scientists keenly observed the performance of PB 1121 at his field and discussed various aspects of farming practices of the area and availability of good variety seeds in detail.
In next two days, progressive farmer Sh. Sham Gorkha assisted and guided IARI scientists to various post offices and different villages of the area for interaction with postal personnel and farmers after which 24 villages were selected for the said purpose. During the interaction, framers raised the issue of unavailability of fertilizer and seed on time. IARI team explained the farmers about the scheme to provide quality seed through post office and assured to solve the problem of seed in coming years. They also requested the farmers to disseminate the information and seed to the fellow farmers for the betterment of farming community at large.
Dr. K.S. Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST-J praised the project and its new initiative to make available the quality seed to the farmers of remote area easily. He also encouraged IARI team and assures all the support form the KVK Jammu, R.S. Pura to implement the project effectively.
IARI team appreciated and thanked all the staff members of KVK Jammu and Jindermelu farmer club for their full cooperation and whole hearted support.
