It started last year when two big TV Stations brought their hostility to the “idiot box” or television where scatting remarks and accusations were announced and posted uninterruptedly on the boob tube. GMA 7 and ABS-CBN 2, the Philippines’ two biggest TV Stations loathed each other that their word war became intense.
The two protagonists are fighting over everything from credibility to ratings and winning big advertisement contracts from big businesses and product endorsers. They’re also fighting over talent artists to fill their TV programs variety of shows.
But unfortunately, their intense rivalry had gone to the dogs. The primary purpose of their stations to give the viewing public credible and friendly shows was compromised. It was so because the other station is fanning divisiveness and hate towards its rival station.
TV ratings manipulation was the cause of their animosity which brought the two TV Stations and their staff hurling dirt and brickbats. Joining in the fray is their talent artists, using their TV show to foul-mouthed the other. The worst of them all is a popular and ageing TV host who has full of hate in his heart. His “ballistic tirades” is armed with “toxic oral criticism.”
Television or “idiot box” should not be the instrument of hate, rather the instrument of understanding and peace. The two TV Stations should exercise magnanimity, the character to influence the viewing public to appreciate others. Idiocy should not serve as a tool to demean the intellect of “idiot box” viewers.
