The International Labor Organization is organizing the South Asian Regional Congress on Child Labor and Education in co-ordination with the Global March against Child Labor and the Bachapan Bachao Andolan
The Congress will be held on June 12 th, which falls on the eve of the World Day Against Child Labour.
The main intent of the Congress is to create a platform for discussion on the interlinking issues of Child Labor and education, to draw attention in the existing mechanisms and good practices for mainstreaming out-of school children and child laborers through education and eventually bring forth a declaration as a road map for future course of action
The Bachpan Bachao Andolan(BBA) has been engaged in eradication of child labor since 1980.It has successfully rescued over 75,000 children from bonded and child labor and helped in the rehabilitation of thousands.
Long marchers and community mobilization, consumer awareness campaigns and coalition buildings are amongst their successful strategies.
The BBA believes in education as a key to end child labor and this must be at the centre stage of child labor discussions.
