Recently, Microsoft which is the one software giant of the world had failed to buy at $50 billion dollars, the company of Yahoo. But, there have been talks that Microsoft is not ready to give up. Instead of trying to buy Yahoo again, it would seem as if Microsoft might be looking at AOL instead.
However, it is not confirmed that talks between Microsoft and AOL have started let alone continued. So far, it would look as AOL could be an alternative as Microsoft failed to buy Yahoo. To the people at Microsoft, AOL and Yahoo are very similar. Also, it might be cheaper to buy AOL than it is to buy Yahoo.
In that regard, there may have been talks of AOL and Yahoo merging. In the past, AOL was valued in the nine-figures during its merger with Time Warner back in 2000. But, the value of AOL has decreased to the eight figures. The current revenues are not even half of what AOL was worth back in 2000.
Also in the case of Yahoo, its co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang has come under fire. So far, it is unknown what will happen next. Nothing knows what will happen next. It is possible that Microsoft could end up acquiring both AOL and Yahoo in the future.
But, there is the possibility that Google may end up joining in as well.
