Upon winning the United States Presidency, Barack Obama swiftly moved to fill in his cabinet. He had picked New Mexico Governor and former Democratic Presidential hopeful Bill Richardson to be the Secretary of Commerce. However, Richardson withdrew because of an investigation of state contracts. But, Richardson has not been implicated on a person level. As a result, it has caused Obama to comb through to find another nominee.
The next person to get to the top of the list would be a Conservative Republican. That would be GOP Senator Judd Gregg of New Hampshire. However, Gregg has strong disagreements with Obama in regards to the economic stimulus. So far, Senate Democrats and moderate Republicans have reached middle ground as a result. Because of this, Gregg announced that he would withdraw his nomination.
“We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy,” Gregg explained in a statement.
However, Gregg thanked Obama for the nomination. So far, Gregg withdrew because of different points of view in regards to the stimulus spending. As a result, Obama is going to have to continue combing through to find a nominee for the Commerce Secretary. But, Obama also has to find nominees to fill up his other vacant posts.
This is another blow to US President Obama. Because of this, he must quickly find another nominee to fill in the position of Secretary of Commerce. He must also think about who he will nominate for the other posts.
