Even as the Indain public anger is mounting against the ferocious 3-day siege by Pakistani terrorists of the 5 star Taj Mahal hotel, the heritage land mark of Mumbai city, now freed after a 59 hour gun battle by the elite commando forces who killed or captured the terrorists, India on Saturday sent a strong signal to the Government of Pakistan that it would not tolerate its state sponsored terrorism any more on the Indian soil. Meanwhile, the death toll in the terror tragedy rose to 195.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s plain telephonic talk with his Pakistani counterpart asking him to send his ISI chief to New Delhi to see the proof of Pak involvement in the terrorist attack on Mumbai is being interpreted as a waning to that country.
On the other hand, External Affairs Minnister Pranab Mukherjee has also asked his Pakistani counterpart to take immediate steps to avoid using the Pak territory by any groups to plan and execute attacks on Indian targets. Any failure to do so would deteriorate the already thin relations with Pakistan, Mukerjee curtly told him.
Political observers are interpreting these developments as indications of India getting tougher against terrorism. Reports emanating from Washington also suggest that the US officials are fearing of imminent Indian attacks against the terrorist training camps in Pakistan in case the neighboring country fails to act to stop terror.
Several political groups in India have organized protest rallies denouncing the terror attacks and are demanding strong action against terrorism.
