Gulbarga/Karnataka — On the day of the solar eclipse a shocking belief came to light in this region.
North Karnatka has unique traditions, like dropping babies from temple tops and putting them before the wheels of speeding chariots. They also have unusual beliefs related to the effects of the solar eclipse. Here people believe that children were born disabled because of the negative effects of an earlier solar eclipse. Hence the children were buried in a neck-deep pits during the solar eclipse for six hours. The paralyzed children often cry during this ordeal.
According to experts at NIMHANS (Nationation Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences) Bangalore, two decades ago they had conducted some studies related to the eclipse. In this study they found some inluence on the brain was during solar eclipse. But mud therapy conducted during eclipse at Gulbarga cannot be considered valid until it is scientifically proven though many parents apparently found there were considerable improvement in mobility of the children after the mud therapy treatment.
