
Jammu/New Delhi, March 4 (Scoop News)- Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi today and discussed various issues pertaining to Jammu & Kashmir including Indo-Pak talks, security situation in the state, infiltration from across the border, Human Right issues and developmental initiatives being persued by the state government.

The Chief Minister drew the Prime Minister’s attention to the increased attempts of infiltration from across the border and briefed him of the counter measures being taken by the state to maintain peace in the state.
During the 45 minute long meeting the Chief Minister also briefed the Prime Minister about various initiatives being taken by the state government to maintain law & order in the state.
Omar Abdullah expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the support extended by the Union Government in ensuring the implementation of the government’s resolve of Zero Tolerance to the Human Rights Violations and in this regard he made a specific mention of the cooperation extended by the BSF in the investigation of a case of recent incident in which a 16 year old boy was killed.
It is pertinent to mention here that in this regard two BSF personnel including a Commandant R.K. Birdi has been arrested.
In the meeting the two leaders also discussed issues of development and power scenario in the state. The Chief Minister informed the Prime Minister that the state government had initiated number of pro-active measures for reforms in the power sector and accelerated development in the state.
He also apprised the Prime Minister that the state government has engaged an external agency for conducting quality audit and monitoring of various developmental schemes in the state in a bid to ensure optimum utilization of resources.
The Chief Minister also informed the Prime Minister about the initiative of the state government to bring in reforms in the state power distribution system to check the huge transmission losses. He further informed the Prime Minister about the new power projects being taken up in the state sector to harness the power generation resources of the state.
During the meeting the Chief Minister also thanked the Prime Minister for the liberal funding by the Government of India in the current year’s plan and also urged him for the same kind of support in the next year’s plan.
The Prime Minister who appreciated the efforts of the state government assured the Chief Minister of the Union Government’s full support in its endeavor to put the state of Jammu & Kashmir on the path of peace, prosperity and development.
