The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Administration, in collaboration with NGOs and other agencies, will organize a massive awareness programme in different parts of the districts of J&K to motivate the people against the ill effects of drug abuse on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, to be observed on June 26, 2009.
To finalize the various arrangements for the observance of the day, a meeting of officers of Line Departments was held here on Tuesday. The officers said at the meeting that a massive campaign would be aimed at raising awareness of the major problems that illicit drugs represent to society and especially to young people and added that the goal of the campaign should be to inspire the people and mobilize their support for drug control.
During the meeting, it was decided that all district hospitals, and all primary health centres existing in different blocks of the districts would hold awareness camps to educate the masses about the drug abuse. Besides, a public motivation and educative camp would also be organized alongside National Highway.
The Chemist Association and Rotary Club would provide written banners highlighting various slogans against drug abuse and would be displayed at prominent places for the awareness of the common masses. The Red Cross Society, would educate the people about the dreaded effects of use of drugs through printed pamphlets on the day, the meeting decided. A rally of school children would also be organized at Kud for general awareness of people.
Among others, Chief Planning Officer, Presidents of Chemist Associations and Rotary Club, , District Immunization Officers, Assistant Controller, Drugs, District Education Planning Officers and Secretary, Red Cross Society were also present.
