Srinagar,May, 19 – Acknowledging the great contribution of nursing staff in providing proper medi-care, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma on Tuesday said nurses are the ones patients look up to before being attended by the doctors. He said nurses are frontline health-care providers who make important decisions upfront and take timely action in patient care.
The Minister said this while addressing a function, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Nurses Association at GMC, Srinagar’s Auditorium in connection with the celebrations of International Nurses Day today.
Lauding the role of the nurses in health-care, the Minister said they are working under constraints, adding measures have already been initiated to improve their working condition. He also assured them that disparities in their service cadre will be looked into and taken care of.
Referring to the contribution of Florence Nightingale in modern nursing, Mr. Sharma called upon the nurses to take inspiration from her and follow her footsteps in selflessly serving mankind. He said health-care is a noble profession in which nurses have a crucial part to play.
Principal, GMC, Srinagar, Prof. Shaheeda Mir, President, J&K Nurses Association, Srinagar, Ms. Sheikh Fareeda and Principal, AMT School, Srinagar also addressed the gathering and threw light on the life of Florence Nightingale and her services towards the mankind.
Ms. Fareeda also put forth a charter of demands pertaining to the nurses’ fraternity before the Minister, who assured them of considering their demand on merit.
A cultural programme was presented by the students of AMT School, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
