Addressing a press conference in Jammu today, Mankotia commenting on the recent tour of the Union Home Minister said that Chidambaram’s meeting only with Congress delegations demonstrates that he was here not in the capacity of union Home Minister but to bring warring factions of Congress on one platform. He demanded that Chidambram’s visit be treated as unofficial and expenditure incurred on his tour be recovered from either Congress party and burden should not be put on state exchequer.
. Balwant Singh Mankotia asked the Union Home Minister to strengthen the Village Defence Committees/Dhok Defence Committees and to enhance the honorarium of SPOs and regularize them on the pattern of Rehbar-e-Taleem, who have completed five years of service.
Mankotia informed that NPP has already apprised the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about the demand and requested him to enhance the honorarium of SPOs to Rs. 10,000 per month from the existing Rs. 3000/- per month.
Praising the SPOs and VDC members for their exemplary role in fighting the militancy in the state, Mr. Mankotia said that hundred of them and their family members have sacrificed their lives to maintain the integrity of the country. He further informed that while VDCs are getting nominal honorarium DDCs are getting nothing.
Mr. Mankotia announced that Panthers Party would raise the matter peretaining to VDCs/DDCs in the coming session forcefully so that their genuine demands are conceded.
