This was stated by Minister for Technical Education, R. S. Chib in Legislative Assembly while replying to the discussion held on the department under his charge. The project will cost Rs. 2093 crore and the funding pattern will be 90:10, he said.
To implement the programme, Mr. Chib said that upgradation of existing ITIs will be taken on a larger scale with thrust on adding modern industry oriented trades and replacing defunct and obsolete trades. He said the department has focused on vocational training improvement programme under which market driven vocational courses will be introduced to make the youth nationally and internationally competitive.
This apart, the Minister said that Government of India provides Rs 2.50 crore to a private person/agency to set up an ITI under public-private-partnership. He said government is ready to promote private investment by facilitating establishment of such institutions in the State.
Mr. Chib said that government has proposed to set up one ITI in each block and 20 new ITIs are being set up in the State this year in this direction. He said 18 new Polytechnic will also be established in the uncovered districts including 8 newly created districts of the State. The site for establishing these institutions will be identified in consultation with local MLAs of the concerned district and Rs. 12.30 crore are likely to be utilized on each.
The Minister said the focus of the government is to hone the skills of the youth and augment technical work force in the state. He said technical education is the only viable alternative to the unemployment problem in the modern industrialized world.
Later, the House passed demand of grants amounting to Rs 10568.19 lakh for Technical Education after the legislators withdrew their cut motions.
