Jammu,/Srinagar, August 24 (Scoop News)-Various journalists associations of Jammu and Kashmir today condemned the Mumbai gang-rape.
Members of the Jammu Press Club and Various journalists’ organizations including Photographer’s Association in Jammu staged a protest demonstration against the gang-rape of a photojournalist in Mumbai.
They have demanded that the culprits of the heinous act should be immediately arrested and meted out the sternest punishment.
Journalist bodies in Srinagar also condemn Mumbai gang rape.
The organizations of journalists demanded that the criminals involved in the gang rape be immediately brought to book, and that all necessary steps be taken to ensure that the safety and security of journalists and common citizens.
Journalist bodies’ call for a risk insurance cover for all journalists in the country covered under the wage board or on contract basis, taking into account increasing reports of press bashing. Newspaper managements and the government have to take this responsibility in an explosive situation where journalists are being exposed to increasing attacks.
Meanwhile RK Bharati Foundation (RKBF) has strongly condemned the gang rape of a young journalist in Mumbai demanding severest possible punishment to perpetrators of the crime.
In a statement RKBF chairman King Bharati,(Senior Journalist ) has said that the governments of various states of India have not learnt anything from the infamous Delhi gang rape for strengthening the security adding more than lip service the new law against rape needs to be implemented in letter and spirit.
Bharati has said that it was most unfortunate that the media fraternity which was on the fore front during the Delhi Gang rape had to come out on streets for similar heinous crime against one of their own colleagues in a metro like Mumbai.
He said everybody must convey a strong message to such criminal minded people that their crimes won’t be tolerated and would not be allowed to happen.
He also asked the governments of various states and union government to frame a solid policy to prevent such crimes in the society so that people particularly women folk live fear free.
