Japan on Saturday marks the 66th anniversary of the atomic bombing over Hiroshima. The United States had dropped the first-ever atomic bomb on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. The New York Times online edition on Saturday writes, "the bomb destroyed most of the city and killed as many as 140,000 people."
After the United States dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki on 9 August 1945, Japan surrendered.
As part of commemoration of the anniversary, according to the Asahi Shimbun online edition , Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui read out a peace declaration that represented the agonies of survivals, along with a suggestion for the Japanese government to review its energy policies in the light of the Fukushima nuclear accident.
The aftereffects of the Hiroshima and Nagasaka bombings on 6 August and 9 August became far-reaching and serious in the two cities.
