Srinagar, September 24 (Scoop News) – Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Monday said that he would discuss the issue of providing security to panchayat members in the next meeting of Unified Headquarters to ensure their safety and smooth functioning.
Condemning the killing of Naib-Sarpanch from district Baramulla Mohammad Shafi Teli, the Chief Minister described the act heinous and against public cause. He said that establishment of powerful and functional Panchayat Raj in the State is his government’s commitment. He said that all efforts would be made to safeguard the Panches and Sarpanches and provide them conducive-atmosphere to work for the good of people.
Omar Abdullah conveyed his grief and sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
It may mention here that militants gunned down a Deputy sarpanch in Baramulla district late last evening.
According to offical reports, militants fired upon Mohammad Shafi Teli (37), the Deputy Sarpanch of Nowpora Jageer area of Kreeri Sopore in Baramulla District last evening, when he was on way home after offering prayers.
