Addressing a very large public gathering at the Mazar-e-Sher-i-Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at Hazratbal on late Sheikh Sahib’s 105th birth anniversary, after offering fateh and floral tributes to the late leader, Omar Abdullah criticized those who create problems in day to day life affairs of the people by propagating negative thinking.
Omar said that last five months pushed the economy of the Valley to the wall, made traders, businessmen, transporters and others paupers and that snatched bread earning capacity of labours and daily wage earners. “The disturbance reversed the pace of development, marred the education and made students stone pelters”, he said and ridiculed this negative approach of dealing with issues of political nature.
Omar Abdullah said that his Government from the day first has underlined the necessity of addressing political issues of the State in a political way. “We raised this importance at every forum within the State and outside the State”, he said and referred to the Union Home Minister’s statement regarding application of unique strategy to solve the unique political issues in
“My Government is working on two pronged strategy of dealing economic issues administratively and addressing issues of political nature in a political manner”, he said adding that this was the right course of action and it would be carried forward to achieve the goals. “Progress, economic development, education and livelihood earning systems should be kept out of political pursuits. These are two different subjects needing separate strategies to deal with”, he emphasized.
Paying rich tributes to late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the Chief Minister said that Sher-i-Kashmir throughout his life preached and propagated Hindu, Muslim and Sikh unity and nurtured an atmosphere of communal amity and unity between all sections of the society. “We will continue to work for strengthening this charactertics”, he said and urged the people to extend fullest support in this direction.
Omar Abdullah said that his Government was making every effort to maintain peace and calm and accelerate the pace of development that received set back during the last five months especially in the education sector. “I am advocating and working for removal of AFSPA from the areas where it is not required. We have also released more than 1200 youth arrested for stone pelting besides removing dozens of bunkers”, he said and made it clear that every possible measure would be taken to make the situation palatable and peaceful for economic and political activities.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah paid rich homage to late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and said that he suffered himself for the cause of the people but did not allow the common man to be put to any difficulty.

The Union Minister impressed upon the people to take part in ensuing Panchayat and urban local body polls in large numbers and elect right representatives to get their grievances properly ventilated and redressed.
The Minister for Rural Development, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister for Medical Education, R.S. Chib, Minister of State for R&B, Javaid Ahmad Dar, Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisors to the Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Davender Singh Rana, Provincial President, NC, Ali Mohammad Dar, legislator, Ch. Ramzan and others also spoke on the occasion while various Ministers, legislators, political activists and general people were present on the occasion.
A medical camp organized by Medical Development Society an NGO, was inaugurated on the occasion by Dr. Mustafa Kamal.
Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated District Administrative Block (Mini Secretariat) at Ganderbal. The Rs. 22. 77 crore building complex developed on an area of 39 kanals of land will house 35 district offices. It has 237 office rooms and other required facility. The complex has been completed within a period of two years.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister asked the officers to make public service delivery benchmark of their functioning. “We, whether government functionaries or public representatives are public servants”, he said and laid stress on devoting fullest attention to to the public needs and redressing their grievances on all fronts without wasting any time.

In his address at the occasion, Omar Abdullah referred to the vision Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah possessed for the development of tourism and generation of tourist related economic activities in the Valley.
The Chief Minister said that the importance of SKICC to hold conferences, seminar and meetings of international standard was becoming further more important in the present day national and international scenario of knowledge exchange.
Omar Abdullah also quoted Sheikh Sahib’s vision for achieving two objectives of providing modern health care facility to the people at their doorsteps and paving way for medical tourism by establishing Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

Omar Abdullah then presided over the annual day function of SKIMS organized on the birth day of its founder late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. He reminded the medical fraternity of the Sheikh Sahib keen interest in universalizing health services in the State and providing the people secondary and tertiary health care at their doorsteps.
The Chief Minister said that the best way to pay tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 105th birth anniversary by SKIMS would be that the Institute pledges to achieve the goal of attaining highest position in the country in modern medicare and super specialty disciplines. “Not only this you have to come up to the highest expectations of the people in service delivery to realize the dream dreamt by Sheikh Sahib”, he said. The Minister for Medical Education, R.S. Chib also addressed the gathering while Minister of State for Health, Javaid Ahmad Dar was present.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the first phase of Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) at Nowgam constructed of about Rs. 12 crores. The modern building complex with ancient architecture comprises of 46 rooms. It also houses conference rooms, food courts and 13 counters. The complex is centrally heated with all other modern and required facilities.
